Blog of a Canadian at Heart

Hi, my name's Carly! I'm a 17-year-old, heteroromantic cisgendered female. Above all else I'm a Christian, and I take my beliefs seriously. I live by the rules Jesus said counted the most: Love God, Love Others. It's also a firm belief of mine that God does NOT hate what He creates; I'm a Pride supporter. I love my numerous, numerous FtM friends to death and they're some of the most chivalrous men in my life. I'm an activist for human rights and try to speak out against social injustice when I can. I'm a Potterhead and a Hetalian; I cosplay and roleplay Canada from the show Hetalia: Axis Powers. I'm also an avid Hootowl; my view of life can basically be described by any song by Adam Young. This blog mainly consists of whatever I want, but I estimate the majority of it will be Hetalia, Harry Potter, Owl City, and Homestuck. Also rantings and ravings as well as any information on current events that shows up on my dash. Oh, and sweet, fluffy, cute things. <3

I'm under the influence of a truth serum spell. Just fyi, eh.

Oh for fuck’s sake, if people don’t stop using the word ‘Caucasian’ when referring to white people I’m going to rename my blog Caucasiandoesnotfuckingmeanwhite.

‘Caucasian’ is a (racist) term incorrectly applied to white people when white people found actual Caucasian skulls (in, you know, Caucasia) which were perfectly shaped and assumed that they belonged to white people when, in fact, they didn’t.

jfc I’m getting tired of explaining this to people.

Thank you.

To me that is the c-word and it is never used by me. According to Wikipedia, Johann Friedrich Blumenbach (a German anthropologist) came up with the term and wrote:

I have taken the name of this variety from Mount Caucasus, both because its neighborhood, and especially its southern slope, produces the most beautiful race of men, I mean the Georgian; and because all physiological reasons converge to this, that in that region, if anywhere, it seems we ought with the greatest probability to place the autochthones (birth place) of mankind.

No. Ya’ll are not the most beautiful race. Wrong answer. But that’s what Caucasian means.

keeping this on my blog because this is only something that I learned about RECENTLY

which is ridiculous

I’m not caucasian and I’m not the ethnicities of my ancestors ‘cause I wasn’t really raised in their respective cultures. It’s cool that my ancestors where russian jews, muskogee native americans, irish and polish catholics, but I’m not those things because I was not raised in those cultures. There may be hold-overs from those cultures that made it down through the generations to me, but I’m white and I acknowledge the privilege that comes with that and will try not to be an asshole and to learn from my mistakes and listen to POCs if they tell me I messed up.

Wow, I did not know this. Striking the word “Caucasian” from my vocabulary starting right now. Always thought it was kind of weird to call us that anyway.
